Weapons Trafficking Unit

The Weapons Trafficking Unit is charged with identifying, investigating and dismantling illegal weapons trafficking organizations operating throughout the State of New Jersey. Through the utilization of both proactive and reactive investigative techniques, the Weapons Trafficking Unit seeks to remove illegal weapons from the streets of New Jersey in an effort to deter and prevent illegal gun related violence and provide safety and security to the citizens of the State.

The Weapons Trafficking Unit endeavors to work in a cooperative and coordinated effort with members of other federal, state, county and local law enforcement agencies to target illegal purchases and the unlawful transfers of weapons to individuals who are prohibited from possessing them and to those individuals who engage in criminal activity. The Weapons Trafficking Unit also focuses investigative efforts on recovered crime guns in an effort to identify their purchasers and attempt to identify illegal surrogate firearm purchases and transfers.
