Weapons Trafficking Unit
The Weapons Trafficking Unit is charged with identifying, investigating and dismantling illegal weapons trafficking organizations
operating throughout the State of New Jersey. Through the utilization of both proactive and reactive investigative techniques, the
Weapons Trafficking Unit seeks to remove illegal weapons from the streets of New Jersey in an effort to deter and prevent illegal gun related
violence and provide safety and security to the citizens of the State.
The Weapons Trafficking Unit endeavors to work in a cooperative and coordinated effort with members of other federal, state, county and
local law enforcement agencies to target illegal purchases and the unlawful transfers of weapons to individuals who are prohibited from
possessing them and to those individuals who engage in criminal activity. The Weapons Trafficking Unit also focuses investigative efforts
on recovered crime guns in an effort to identify their purchasers and attempt to identify illegal surrogate firearm purchases and transfers.
