Troopers Arrest Man for Drug Distribution While Saving
Another from Medical Emergency

Bound Brook, N.J. A Bound Brook man has been arrested after a one-month New Jersey State Police investigation determined that he was selling suspected Crystal Methamphetamine and Gamma Hydroxybutyrate (GHB) from his home in Bound Brook.  While at the home, troopers located an unresponsive man in an upstairs bedroom suffering from a possible drug overdose and performed first aid until medics arrived.

On Monday, December 9, at approximately 7:30 p.m., detectives from the Troop D Criminal Investigation Office observed John Norton, 33, of Bound Brook conduct an alleged drug transaction in front of his home on Mountain Avenue.  After the drug transaction, Norton was taken into custody and brought to the Somerville Barracks for processing.

Troopers found the unresponsive man partially clothed and vomiting. Bound Brook EMS and Somerset Medical Center Paramedics arrived and transported the man to the Somerset Medical Center.  Medical personnel believe that if troopers hadn’t been there to perform initial first aid to the victim, he may have died.

Detectives recovered more than four ounces of Crystal Methamphetamine and 36 ounces of GHB, both valued at approximately $15,000.  Also seized was drug paraphernalia and more than $4,000 in cash.  Norton was charged with Possession of CDS and Distribution of CDS.  He was lodged in the Somerset County Jail in default of $100,000 full cash bail.  Troopers worked with Somerset County Assistant Prosecutor Brian Stack, and the case will be prosecuted by that office.
