Governor Murphy Signs Resolution Designating April 14th as Sikh Day

04/14/2019

TRENTON — Today, Governor Murphy signed SJR57 into law, designating April 14th as Sikh Day in honor of Vaisakhi, a holiday celebrated by the Sikh community.

“Vaisakhi is one of the most historically significant days of the year in the Sikh faith,” said Governor Murphy. “This holiday is an opportunity to recognize the contributions the Sikh community has made not just in New Jersey, but in this country. With one of the largest concentrations of Sikhs in the United States, there's no better place to recognize this holiday than the Garden State.”

Primary sponsors of the bill include Senate President Steve Sweeney, Senators Patrick Diegnan, Jr. and Thomas Kean, Jr., and Assembly Majority Leader Louis Greenwald and Assemblyman Raj Mukherji.
