Today, we mourn the profound loss of Lieutenant Governor Sheila Y Oliver. As her Chief of Staff, I had the privilege of occupying a front row seat to witness her greatness on a daily basis. Her impact on my life is immeasurable; not only was she a dynamic leader and trailblazer in her professional role, but she was also a dear friend and mentor to me personally.

Sheila's commitment to advocacy for women, her unwavering dedication to equity, and her resolute stance as a champion for a better society have left an indelible mark. Professionally, she led with unmatched prowess, consistently blazing trails that will guide generations to come. Her work transcended the title she held; she was a beacon of change, progress, and hope.

Yet, my relationship with Sheila extended beyond the professional realm. She was family. Her warmth, her wisdom, and her boundless generosity were extended not only to me, but to my loved ones as well. Her family embraced us, and we, in turn, embraced her with open hearts.

As we grapple with the void left by her passing, it is clear that New Jersey has lost one of its most exceptional legislators. And I, personally, have lost a mentor, a confidant, and a friend.
