The Firearms Investigation Unit is continuing to process license and permit applications. These applications may experience delays due to the COVID-19 response efforts. Please contact the Firearms Investigation Unit using the following email addresses. If your question pertains to an application submitted to a municipal Police Department, please contact them for information and assistance. Your municipal Police Department is the only agency that can update, modify or approve your application.

Pursuant to Executive Order 129 issued by Governor Murphy, RPO renewals that expired during the Public Health Emergency have been extended for 90 days past the end of the emergency. To remain compliant, applicants must apply before their permit expires with their most recent qualification scores. Applicants will have an additional 90 days past the end of the emergency to requalify and update their scores with FIU.
